TORONTO (AP) - Reggie Lambe scored in the 83rd minute and Toronto FC won its fourth straight Canadian Championship, beating the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 on Wednesday night.
Toronto, 0-9 this season in MLS play, won the two-game, total-goal series 2-1. The Reds will represent Canada in CONCACAF Champions League play.
"You lose nine games, all of a sudden you're a champion," Toronto goalkeeper Milos Kocic said. "It's kind of like a different mentality in the locker room now. You can hear everybody's happy, everybody's laughing. We need to celebrate. You need to feel happy inside."
Nick Soolsma headed Ryan Johnson's cross down to Lambe, who fired a right-footed shot past Joe Cannon.
"We just needed a win to get our confidence back up," Lambe said. "We need to go into Saturday (against the Philadelphia Union) playing the same way as we did today."
Both teams played a man down after Toronto's Julian de Guzman and Vancouver's Sebastien Le Toux were ejected after a melee 12 minutes into the second half. De Guzman got a straight red card, and Le Toux a second yellow.
