SACKVILLE, NB ? People around the world will soon be able to stroll across the Mount Allison University campus without even leaving their seat. A team from Google was at the University Tuesday, Aug. 21 to photograph the campus for inclusion in Google?s Street View Project.

?We?re very excited about the Google Street View Project as it gives prospective students and their parents a unique view of the University from wherever they are,? says Tony Frost, Mount Allison?s director of marketing and communications. ?No matter how much information students receive while they are doing their research into which university to attend, nothing beats walking around campus ? even if it is done via the web. You get to see the facilities and grounds that will be your home for the next four years.?

Street View provides 360-degree street-level imagery through Google Maps. Unlike traditional Street View images, which are collected using cameras mounted on a vehicle, the Mount Allison campus was mapped with Google?s Street View Trike. The tricycle, which is equipped with a camera, allows the team to map larger areas that are accessible only by sidewalk and trails, things like university campuses, parks and trails, and stadiums.

The images should be available online within six to 12 months and can be found through Google Search or Google Maps.
