The latest trend in baby showers isn?t actually a shower at all. It?s a ?sip and see,? a more casual party?held after the bundle of joy has arrived.
?It?s a way to introduce your little one to all your friends and family,? says Kara Allen, a Salt Lake City, Utah-based party planner and blogger. ?It?s everything a regular shower would be but on a smaller scale. ?Sip and sees are becoming more popular because, let?s face it, we are all so excited to see the precious newborn!?
With an annual baby boom starting in early summer and peaking in September (in 2010 more babies were born in September than any other month), there?s bound to be more parties for new babies. How can you make your party ? and baby ? stand out in a crowd?
Serve ?mocktails?
Don?t leave the new mom out of the party. If she?s breastfeeding, she should refrain from drinking alcohol, so serve ?mocktails.? Allen recommends setting up a bar with various drinks and a recipe menu, and let guests create their own alcohol-free drinks.
Celebrate the second or third baby, too
Don?t reserve a sip and see for first babies.
?Traditionally, the only baby shower a mom receives is with her first baby,? Allen says. But because a sip and see is more casual, ?it allows friends and family to give gifts in a more informal setting when it?s mom?s second or third child.?
Have fun with a theme
Make your party stand out with a fun theme. Allen says creativity reigns here. ?What about a nautical or sea-themed party, changing the ?see? to ?sea,? ? she suggests.
Plan favors
Be sure to thank your guests with a small favor?on their way home.
?While you are enduring those last really long weeks waiting for your baby to arrive, you could work on cute favors or take-home gifts for guests who will be coming to your sip and see,? Allen says. ?Put thought into your favor, and it will go a long way.?
