Last March I decided to learn more about Internet Marketing after finding the Smart Passive Income blog. I have been a blogger for years but making serious money online wasn?t something I knew much about. ?I also loved the idea of passive income.
I did a lot of reading and listening to podcasts. I learned about blogging for money, niche sites, keywords, Web 2.0 sites, email lists and much more. It really is overwhelming with all the information that is out there.
What have I learned the last six months?
- Don?t spend too much money at first. Since I didn?t have a lot to play with I really haven?t spent a lot of money on Internet Marketing. It wasn?t until last month that I even spent money on something besides domains and hosting. I started with Aweber and started the Internet Business Marketing Academy. It took me a while to get to the point where I wanted to spend the money on these things. Aweber I had heard about back in April but didn?t feel it was time to signup back then. Then in August I knew it was time. Luckily I was able to try it for $1.00 for the first month before paying the regular fee. I think when you first start with Internet Marketing it can be very tempting to want to buy a lot of products. I am not telling you not to buy anything, just think about what you are buying. ?Don?t fall into the trap of spending thousands of dollars before you make much of anything from your own sites.
- Don?t try too many things at once. When I first started learning about all of this stuff I got so excited about all the different ways I could try to make money. I went a little crazy and bit off more than I could chew. This meant I really didn?t have the time to really focus on what I should have been focusing. My advice would be to pick just a couple of ideas and make them awesome. Then you can go back and add more later.
- It takes time. Things don?t usually happen over night in Internet Marketing. Sometimes they take a lot longer than you would want them too. I am one of those people that wants to see instant success and that doesn?t always happen in this field. It is important to remember that what you are doing will pay off in the future. The biggest?hurdle?might be figuring out if you are focusing on the right ideas. I know I struggle with that.
- Do what you can each day. ?I sometimes get stuck into thinking I have to do too much each day. I have a list of items I have to get done but I also have a list of items I want to get gone. I need to work on the ?have to? list first and after that slowly work on the ?want to? list. And I need to remember if I only do one thing on the ?want to? list then that is okay. At least I am moving in the right direction.
- Networking is important. Finding other bloggers and people with the same goals as yourself is very important. I am glad I have found some friends through blogging and through some forums I have joined. We have really been able to help each other out. Blogging isn?t a solo sport and you shouldn?t isolate yourself if you want to grow.
